Women love to be pampered and feel beautiful. With a glamour shoot they can get their hair and makeup done, which will make them feel beautiful to start, but then it’s my job as a photographer to make them comfortable. I work with a lot of models, but I also work with real people that have never been in front of a camera for a professional shoot. I get to know my clients by talking with them about anything and everything; this helps them to relax a bit in front of the camera.

My goals during a shoot are twofold. First of all, I want my clients to feel beautiful. I also want them to bring out their personality and capture the essence of who they are as a person. If you don’t capture who a person is in a session, I believe you have failed as a photographer. I want my clients leaving the studio feeling like a million bucks and walking on cloud nine. I help them to relax by talking to them throughout the shoot and occasionally showing them an image on the back of my camera. Once they see what I see, and the see how beautiful they look, they get a boost of confidence, and you can see it grow as the shoot goes on.

My style with my glamour and also my boudoir photography is very soft and sensual; it can be sexy, but never sexual. I don’t look at women as objects; I see them as beautiful creations, and I want to really capture their beauty. I want to create beautiful, artsy images with them, and I believe I succeed in that. I love using natural light when possible for my boudoir work, but I can achieve that same look with lighting in a studio as well.

One of my recent clients was so excited about a vintage-looking piece of lingerie she bought for our shoot that she sent me an image of herself wearing it so I would have an idea of what it looked like. Then she sent me a text that said, “you are definitely the only man, other than my husband, that I would ever text lingerie photos to!” I thought it was funny, but it also spoke of the absolute trust both her and her husband had placed in me to photograph her in such a personal and intimate way.

All of my clients tell me how comfortable they are/were with me, and how much fun they had. It’s not unusual for them to schedule another session with me because it was such an enjoyable experience. Women love the images that I create of them. As a man in this genre of photography, I think that helps give me credibility. I gain their trust, which in turn helps to create some beautiful artwork. Trust between you and your client is one of the most important ingredients when photographing a boudoir session. As a photographer, if I don’t have my client’s trust during a session like this, we will not create beautiful images.

As a new wedding season is just beginning, McElroy Weddings is proud to present the new 2012 Demo Reel. Footage for this year’s reel was drawn from the over 90 weddings shot and edited in 2011. Our videographers went everywhere from the very tip of the Cape to Maine, New Hampshire to Rhode Island, Western and Eastern Massachusetts, and everywhere between. There were weddings in back yards, inns, beach resorts, and country clubs. We had weddings at the Worcester Art Museum, the State Room, the Taj, the Seaport, Union Station in Worcester, the Wequassett Resort, the Boston Public Library, the Top of the Hub . . . just to name a few.

Needless to say, the process of creating the 2012 Demo Reel proved a little more difficult as we were faced with days and days of quality high-definition footage. In fact, every wedding this year had at least a handful of moments worth placing in the Demo Reel. Unfortunately, we couldn’t put out a 4-hour video, so it was edited down to this, our best wedding reel yet!

2011 not only was a great year for McElroy Wedding videography, but also for client satisfaction. We received the 2012 Best of Weddings Award from The Knot and the coveted Bride’s Choice Award from Wedding Wire. Our staff is especially proud of these awards as they are based totally on the quality and quantity of client reviews. In fact, only about 5% or less of the hundreds of thousands of venders using The Knot and Wedding Wire receive either award, putting our wedding videography and customer service among the elite in the Boston area.

1. Ariel & Tyler – Edited by Kristina: 

Ariel and Tyler chose “Kiss the Girl” by Colbie Caillat for their trailer. Everyone knows this classic song from Disney’s The Little Mermaid. It was an appropriate choice for “Ariel” and  gave the video a personal feel. I purposely chose clips of the bride and groom kissing to match the “kiss the girl” part of the lyrics. It was also fun to edit because of the stunning footage that was captured during their formals. The videographers used the slider on the golf course to film different shots such as the couple walking hand and hand and the groom dipping his bride.

2. Gina & Mike – Edited by Kristina:

Even though Gina and Mike got married on a cloudy/foggy day, the wedding itself was lively and upbeat. I liked how they chose the song “Walking on Sunshine” by Katrina and the Waves for their trailer because it fit the couple well. From preceremony preparations to the reception, the bridal party never stopped having a good time. The song choice was also appropriate because of their beach theme whether it was the bride’s shoes or the table décor at the reception.

3. Melissa & Reese – Edited by Kristina: 

Melissa and Reese had their wedding reception at the Boston Public Library, but before they did, they took their formals all over the Boston Commons. They lucked out with a gorgeous day for their wedding. They took their formals in the public gardens, by the Swan Boats, and even on the carousel. This alone was cool to see, but what really made me excited were the vibrant colors. Between the bride’s hot pink heels and umbrella, the colors were fun to experiment with. There were certain shots I could isolate colors in particular and desaturate everything else.

4. Jessica & Micheal – Edited by Evan:

Jessica and Michael’s  choice of “Strangers” by The Kinks reminded me of the movie from whence it came, Darjeeling Limited.  With such a unique song, a unique couple, and a unique setting (The Boston Public Library), I was able to express myself, and my style, making great use of the film filter and long pacing.

5. Melissa & Tyler – Edited by Kristina: 

Every once in awhile I’ll stumble upon a song that no one has chosen before for their wedding. Melissa and Tyler chose the song “Strawberry Swing” by Coldplay. Coldplay is one of my favorite bands, so I was stoked to edit this trailer. There is one part of the song that repeats several times: “Now the sky could be blue, I don’t mind, without you it’s a waste of time.” During this part of the song, I would intersperse shots of the scenery with footage of the couple. Not only was it cool to edit to the song, but also it showed the strong connection between the bride and the groom.

6. Leah & Anthony – Edited by Mike:

Leah and Anthony’s trailer was enjoyable to piece together because the song is current, and no one had chosen it before. It’s whimsical, yet romantic. Also, the couple took a lot of their formals with the sun setting in the background. It was something unique to add throughout the trailer of the sun bursting through the couple kissing. What I like is that you can tell how much the couple loves one another in their footage; the groom actually tears up when he sees his bride walk down the aisle for the first time. And even though their vows were standard affair, they spoke them very emotionally.

7. Keri & Ryan – Edited by Kristina: 

Keri and Ryan’s trailer was another example of how choosing a unique song can be exciting to edit. They chose “Sweet Disposition” by the Temper Trap. Not only do I love this song, but it is played in one of my favorite movies, 500 Days of Summer. Drawing inspiration from the movie, I chose shots of Boston to begin the trailer because in the movie, the song is played as the couple explores the city. Similar to Melissa and Tyler’s trailer, I tried to edit to the lyrics as much as possible. One section that repeats is “A moment, a love, a dream, a laugh, a kiss, a cry, our rights, our wrongs.” During this part of the trailer, I chose footage of the couple executing these different actions.

8. Andrea & Alexander – Edited by Evan:

I don’t often see a couple performing at their own wedding together, so it was a great surprise to see both Andrea and Alexander are musically inclined and chose to perform “You’re My Best Friend” by Queen at their reception. Throughout the trailer, I was able to create the illusion of Andrea and Alexander playing along. I strive to create a music video feel in all of my trailers, but this one is made legit.

9. Sweta & Kunal – Edited by Evan: 

Sweta and Kunal also chose the song “Sweet Disposition” by The Temper Trap for their wedding trailer. You can see how distinctly different Kristina and I are in our approach by comparing the two trailers. I, too, love 500 Days of Summer, but I channeled my inner Conversations with Other Women in this one by creating a landscape of constantly moving split screens and inlays. Also, Hindi weddings seem to gush incredible colors. Between their dresses and decorations, the trailer is bright and vibrant.

10. Monica & Jonathan – Edited by Evan:

Monica and Jonathan’s wedding venue allowed for some amazing footage. The couple got married at the Granite Links Golf Club, and the bride and groom posed not only in a ruin near the course, but also on a hill that opens up to a distant view of the Boston skyline. The beautiful slider shots and in-camera slow motion gave us a leg up on this trailer, but the song called for more than applying our trademarked style, but inventing intriguing ways to open the piece and segue from scene to scene.

When you’ve chosen to have a professional videographer shoot your wedding, the first question is ‘What package will best cover my wedding day?’ The answer is as different as each wedding is unique, but one thing is always true: While our experienced videographers will capture every possible detail they can on their own, two videographers can cover that much more.

During your ceremony, 2 or more cameras will give an editor more options to choose angles that best show emotions and reactions during such a powerful event.

With two cameras, one can cover the Groom during the vows and the other the Bride, so, even years later when you pull DVD or Blu-ray off the shelf, you can see how you reacted to each vow and smile that your new partner cast your way. You can even catch the groom’s first reaction to his bride as she walks down the aisle. The ‘action/reaction’ edit is something we take for granted in movie and television storytelling, and can be yours for your wedding day.

Similarly, 2 or more angles on your reception entrance, first dance, and cake cutting will allow you to keep important faces always in full view. Without facial expressions in sight, it’s hard to remember exactly how someone was feeling in the moment. Relive those important moments with more angles of coverage for your wedding.

The benefits of having one camera on the Bride and one on the Groom during the ceremony are wonderful, but consider this as well: With 2 videographers, one can follow the Bride while she gets ready and one can follow the Groom.

Often times, the Bride and Groom get ready in separate hotels or houses and when that happens, it’s usually not possible for 1 videographer to cover both, so he or she will choose just the bride or just the groom depending on the couple’s preferences. And what about your reception? 1 Videographer can cover your formals, while the other follows the guests during cocktail hour. It’s always fun to see your guests’ reaction to your beautiful place settings, and interact with one another: All moments that you would normally miss.

Other difficulties with single-camera weddings can arise in certain circumstances. In Jewish tradition, for example, the ceremony takes place under an often times small and restricting chuppah. With the Bride, Groom, officiate, parents, and other wedding party members in such a tight space, it can be easy to have faces obstructed from the videographer’s view, but with multiple cameras at different angles, there’s a greater chance of keeping facial expressions within sight of a camera. In a Hindu wedding service, many parts require the wedding party to change position, also making it difficult for 1 camera to constantly maintain faces in the frame of view. In Greek Orthodox ceremonies, similar events occur.

Make sure that your ceremony, reception, and the rest of your wedding day is covered properly: When you are deciding on which video package to purchase, consider the value of multiple cameras at your wedding.  There’s only one chance to catch it all.
